Celebrants are ceremony professionals who center the client and their needs, style, beliefs, and sensibilities.

ORIGINS OF CELEBRANCY

Celebrancy emerged in Australia in the 1970’s. At the time, Catholicism was in steep decline, so parliament enacted a program of training and certification for “Civil Celebrants.” These professionals held the same authority as clergy to solemnize marriages, perform funerals, and conduct baby naming ceremonies, but without the theological and traditional trappings of the church.

Dally Messenger III, a mentor of Martha’s, is considered by many to be the father of the celebrancy movement.

In 2001 he provided essential guidance to the founders of the Celebrant Foundation and Institute, which has since become the leading credentialing organization for North American Celebrants.

CREDENTIALS

Martha is a Certified Life-Cycle Celebrant® through the Celebrant Foundation & Institute.

She is ordained through American Marriage Ministries, granting her full authority to legally solemnize weddings in the state of Vermont and in most municipalities in New York’s Adirondack region. Martha serves much of New England, and since states’ marriage laws vary, she is happy to research the requirements of your location.
